Acquisitions Guidelines and Application (PDF)

NAPT seeks provocative and engaging completed programs from independent or public television producers. We encourage works that address new and current issues reflecting the changing identity of Native communities, including the following:

  • Works that focus on under-represented or unheard voices.
  • Works that are innovative, original and compelling to a national audience.
  • Works that explore issues of universal interest from a unique Native American perspective.
  • Works that view the history of Native Americans through contemporary stories.
  • Works that use new technology and/or provide new models for television production.
  • Works with a sense of humor.

PROGRAMS FOR PUBLIC TELEVISION

NAPT is seeking programs in many genres including documentary, performance, cultural/public affairs and animation. Projects submitted to this solicitation must be intended for national public television broadcast. Assignment of exclusive broadcast rights, off-air recording rights, educational, home video, foreign distribution and Internet broadcasting rights are included in the NAPT Production License Agreement. The NAPT Public Television Program Fund is made possible by funding provided by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

ACQUISITION PROPOSAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Completed application form.
  • A 50-word synopsis of the program.
  • A one- to two-page summary of the storyline, suitable for press release material.
  • One-paragraph biographies of the Production team or other key participants (actors, etc.) to be used in promotion.
  • A list of Program underwriters or funders, including how they are to be identified.
  • A complete list of any license agreements entered into regarding the picture and detailed description of rights committed in those agreements.
  • List and describe all previous network broadcasts or public screenings at festivals, and include a list of awards won by the picture or by members of the Production team.

If NAPT is interested in acquiring this program for public television broadcast, Submittor will be required to provide the following materials for licensing purposes and for submission to public television distribution services (PBS, NETA, or APT):

  • Evidence of E&O insurance naming NAPT, CPB, and the designated distribution service (PBS, NETA or APT) as additional insureds. This policy will protect all parties from accidental trademark and copyright infringement, libel, slander, invasion of privacy, defamation, plagiarism, and misappropriation of ideas.
  • Archival stills and/or production shots from the program with appropriate identification of people depicted, context, purposes. Photographs can be digitally submitted in TIFF or JPEG formats, with at least 300 dpi resolution.
  • Appearance release forms for each individual in the film and publicity photographs must be provided.
  • Documentation of all material licensed from another party, such as literary works, artwork, music, etc.

DO THE FOLLOWING

  • Completely fill out the application form.
  • Materials should be submitted on 8 1/2 x 11" paper using 1" margins and a standard font.
  • Include (2) COLLATED copies of the items listed in the Proposal Requirements section.
  • Include (2) copies of the program (VHS tape or DVD).

DO NOT

  • Fax or email applications.
  • Include publicity or promotional materials.
  • Staple or bind the proposal.
